In 2004, Transelectrica, the state-owned power utility and operator of Romania’s high-voltage network, decided to completely modernize the country’s largest 400/220/110 kilovolt substation which was already 40 years old at the time.
Lorünser Austria was responsible for all the engineering and development of the components (strings, clamps, insulators, cables, pipes). In the process, components of the 400 kV system were completely renewed and components of the 220 kV lines were renewed field by field. The area of the 110 kV voltage level was equipped with gas-insulated busbars for space reasons
